Instructions for Bookstores: Selling OpenStax Assignable Access Codes

OpenStax offers student access codes for its Assignable platform, which can be sold through campus bookstores. This option is intended for bookstores that do not participate in Inclusive or Equitable Access Programs.

If your bookstore participates in an Inclusive or Equitable Access Program, you can review the Inclusive Access Guidelines and Instructions (PDF) for details on supported partners, program workflows, and how OpenStax materials are delivered through these programs.

Are you a student? This order form is for campus bookstore staff only. 1. Bookstore Staff: Fill out the Order Form

To begin, the bookstore staff member fills out the OpenStax Assignable access code order form.

2. OpenStax will send an Estimate

After submitting the completed order form, OpenStax will send an estimate based on the provided details. You will be able to review and accept or reject the estimate.

3. You will send the Purchase Order (PO)

You can use the estimate to request a PO from your procurement department. Send the PO to OpenStax@rice.edu with reference to the estimate number.

4. OpenStax will send you the Access Codes and invoice.

OpenStax will deliver the Assignable access codes to the bookstore and will send the invoice in accordance with the PO instructions.

5. Distribute Access Codes to Students

You may now sell the codes to students for use with the OpenStax Assignable platform.

Please note: Students can also purchase Assignable access directly through the platform, with pricing starting at $15 per course.

6. Code Expiration Policy

Codes are not tied to activation or usage for billing purposes. Instead, they are valid upon issuance and include a 2-year expiration period (subject to change).

7. Reordering and Flexibility

OpenStax strives to accommodate bookstore needs, especially for urgent reorders.

8. Refund Policy

All sales are final and non-refundable. We kindly ask that you carefully review your estimate details before sending your PO.
