Troubleshooting: Manually Syncing Scores in OpenStax Assignable and LMS grading policies
Please note: Assignable is designed to sync with your LMS gradebook automatically. If a line item is missing from your gradebook, you can follow these steps to sync it manually.
Manually syncing scores
- Navigate to editing the corresponding assignment.
- Click the “Sync grades to LMS” button when the assignment opens. This will create any missing line items and manually sync any OpenStax Assignable scores into the LMS.
Additionally, instructors can download grades directly from the Assignable tool by clicking the download icon next to the Sync grades button.
Potential errors
Potential errors you may see when syncing scores or downloading grades include the following, some of which may occur simultaneously:
- Student not in course: One or more student(s) may not be enrolled in your course.
- No scores available: No students have started the assignment; there are no scores to sync.
- Unknown error: An unknown syncing issue.
- Download unsuccessful: There was an issue downloading scores.
If you are missing any grades after the manual sync or encounter any additional errors, please contact our Customer Support team and include the LMS you are using and the error message/number you see.
LMS grading policies
As OpenStax Assignable is an external LTI tool, there are sometimes limitations to certain LMSs. The policies listed below are known issues you may encounter.
Canvas
- When creating an assignment in Canvas, instructors should ensure that the “Submission attempts” field is set to “Unlimited”; setting a limited number of attempts will cause issues with grade submission.
- Canvas does not support Missing Submission policies for assignments created with an external tool (Assignable is an external tool).
