OpenStax Complimentary Copy Policy

Our Commitment to Keeping Textbooks Affordable

One of the primary goals at OpenStax is to reduce the cost of educational resources for students. As a grant-funded organization, our funding does not cover the printing or shipping of complimentary textbook copies. Covering these costs would necessitate higher prices for our print offerings.

How to Obtain a Review Copy

To maintain affordability, we have decided not to send out complimentary copies. Instead, we ask instructors, individuals, and/or departments to purchase any review copies they may need. The OpenStax textbooks are available through most campus bookstores or for individual sale via our distribution partner, Kendall Hunt.

Accessing the Free Digital Version (PDF)

Additionally, the PDF version of our textbooks is excellent and can be printed locally without any restrictions. The PDF content is the same as in the physical book and can be found on each book's Details page on OpenStax.org. After you arrive on the book's Details page, you will see all of the available formats of the textbook to the left of the screen under the Get the book heading, as seen in the example below.
