How to Create an Educator/Researcher Account and Request Instructor Access

To access OpenStax Instructor Resources, you will need a free Educator/Researcher account on openstax.org. This article walks you through creating an account and requesting instructor access.

Instructor Resources are available only to individuals who can verify their status as educators or institutional staff. This policy helps protect the integrity of these materials, which are used by thousands of instructors worldwide to develop course assignments, assessments, and instructional content.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Go to openstax.org and click Log in in the top right corner.

1. Click the Sign up tab and select Educator/Researcher.

1. Complete the Set up your account form by entering your name, email, and an 8+ character password. We recommend using your school-issued email address to assist with the account verification process.
   1. Be sure to check the box to agree to our Terms of Use and Privacy Notice, then click Continue. 
      
      
      
      
2. A 6-digit PIN will be sent to the email address you entered. If you do not receive an email within 15 minutes, check your Spam or Junk folder. You can resend the confirmation email from your account profile. If you still cannot locate the email, contact support@openstax.org.
3. Next, open your email account and go to your inbox and either:
   1. Copy and paste the PIN into the website form, then click Confirm my account.
      

      

      OR

   2. Click the Confirm Your Email Address button in the PIN email.  

      
      
      
      
      
      
4. After entering the PIN, you will be asked to provide your school's country and name to verify your account. Once completed, click Verify my instructor status.
   
   
   

Partnership with SheerID

To protect the integrity of Instructor Resources, we partner with SheerID to confirm educator credentials.

If Verification Requires Additional Documentation

• If SheerID cannot automatically verify your account, you may submit documentation such as pay stubs or staff IDs from the current academic year. Learn more about the SheerID verification process here: SheerID Verification FAQ .
• If your school is not listed, use the link beneath the text box to submit a manual access request. Please allow 3–4 business days for processing.
• If you are a Home School instructor, select Home School as your school.
• If you have questions or cannot verify through SheerID, contact support@openstax.org.

6. Once your account is verified, complete your profile by entering information about your role and how you use OpenStax textbooks.
   

Finished: Access Your Instructor Resources

Once your account is verified, you will have access to Instructor Resources for all OpenStax textbooks. The lock icons will change to a Download button on each book’s Instructor Resources page. If you do not see this change, log out and back into your account to refresh your permissions.
