How do I integrate OpenStax Assignable with Schoology?

OpenStax Assignable Checklist

  • Coordinate with administrators who have developer or admin access to LMS settings.
  • Ensure compatibility with LTI 1.3.
  • Note that beta, sandbox, or test environments are not supported.
  • Assignable only needs to be integrated once. Please double-check that the tool isn't already available in your LMS.
  • Complete all steps outlined in this help article.

Install the App in Schoology

  1. On https://lti-gateway.openstax.org/register, select Schoology from the dropdown and click the link to find the OpenStax Assignable app in Schoology.

  2. Click the "Install LTI 1.3 App" button.

  3. When prompted, install the app for the organization. You can select which courses in the organization can use the app in the next step.

  4. On the next screen, https://app.schoology.com/apps/school_apps, click "Install/Remove" and select the courses you wish to install the app for.

Register the Deployment ID

  1. Click the "Configure" button to find the installed app's Deployment ID. Alternatively, on https://lti-gateway.openstax.org/register, click the link on the second step.

  2. Copy the full Deployment ID that appears on the configuration page.

  3. Go back to https://lti-gateway.openstax.org/register (select "Schoology" from the dropdown if needed). Paste the Deployment ID into the field and click "Save & Continue".

  4. Fill in your contact information, select your institution from the list, then submit the tool registration.

Enable Grading

Instructors can now find the tool in their courses under Add Materials > OpenStax Assignable.

To ensure assignment grades appear in the Gradebook, the assignment must be edited after creation. Enable grading and select a grading period.
