What is the authoring and peer-review process for OpenStax textbooks?

How OpenStax Books are Made

Like a traditional textbook publisher, OpenStax hires faculty and subject-matter experts from across the country to collaborate on and write our textbooks. These drafts then go through an extensive peer review and editorial process prior to publication, and unlike other publishers, we publish these original textbooks for free!

Most OpenStax authors, writers, editors and reviewers are practicing academics and instructors. Their experience, research interest, and influence are factors in their candidacy, with one out of every ten potential authors making it to the team.
