Why don't you have the book I'm looking for?

Accessing the OpenStax Textbooks and Resources

As OpenStax is a grant-funded textbook publisher, we only have rights to the books we have created ourselves. You can access the OpenStax library on the OpenStax Subjects page at OpenStax.org/subjects.

At OpenStax, one of our main goals is to increase access to education for as many students as possible. To achieve this, we have created textbooks for some of the most popular introductory higher education courses. The two main factors we consider when deciding which books to publish are:

  1. How many students are taking the course nationwide?
  2. How expensive are the existing textbooks for that course?

Publishing Limitations

Certain textbooks, particularly those in fields such as art and literature, are challenging to produce due to copyright restrictions. These restrictions make it difficult to publish these books under an open license, and therefore, they are unlikely to become part of the OpenStax library.
