How do I create an OpenStax Assignable assignment in Blackboard Learn?

To help you get started with creating an assignment in Blackboard Learn, we’ve prepared a short video guide and a step-by-step walkthrough. These instructions will walk you through setting up your first assignment in Assignable. Once you have created your first assignment, you will not need to log in to your OpenStax account again, and you can follow the same process to create any future assignments.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Log in to your Blackboard Learn account and navigate to your course page.
   
2. Select “Content” from the left navigation bar, then click “Build Content.” Select “OpenStax Assignable” from the drop-down menu.
   
3. Next, you’ll be prompted to log in to your OpenStax account. Please note your OpenStax account will need to be instructor verified. Click “Link your OpenStax account.”
   
4. In the window that pops up, follow the steps to either log into your account or create a new OpenStax account. For step-by-step instructions on how to sign up for an Educator account, please visit our help article: Requesting Instructor-Only Access to OpenStax Resources .
   
5. Once your account has been linked, return to Blackboard Learn and select the OpenStax textbook you are using for your course and from which you would like to make an assignment.
   
6. Optional: After selecting your textbook, you can add “My Textbook” and “My Highlights” as resources to your course page by clicking “Select” on both screens. Selecting these resources will exit assignment creation and create a dedicated link on your course dashboard. After adding them, return to step 3 and proceed. Since your account is already linked, you will not need to repeat steps 3–4.
   
7. Select the chapters, sections, or activities you would like to include in your assignment, then click “Create.”
