How do I create an OpenStax Assignable assignment in Blackboard Ultra?

To help you get started with creating an assignment in Blackboard Ultra, we’ve prepared a short video guide and a step-by-step walkthrough. These instructions will walk you through setting up your first assignment in Assignable. Once you have created your first assignment, you will not need to log in to your OpenStax account again, and you can follow the same process to create any future assignments.

1. Log in to your Blackboard Ultra account and navigate to your course page.

2. Select “Courses” from the left-hand navigation bar, then click on your current course. This will take you to your Content page.

Log in or Sign up

7. Once your account is linked, return to Blackboard Ultra and select the OpenStax textbook for your course, and you will now be able to create an assignment.

Select your OpenStax title

8. Optional: After you have selected your textbook, we encourage you to add “My Textbook” and “My Highlights” as resources to your course page - click “Select” on both screens to do so. Selecting these resources will exit assignment creation, and a dedicated link will be created on your course dashboard to the selected resources. After selecting each of these items to add to your course page, you will need to return to step #7 and proceed to create your assignment. Note that since you have already linked your account, you will not need to repeat steps #5-6.

Add “My Textbook” and “My Highlights”

9. Choose the Chapter you would like to assign from the Table of Contents on the left side of the screen. Select the sections/activities you want to include in your assignment, then click Review Assignment.
