How do you develop OpenStax textbooks?
Building the team
Once OpenStax secures funding for a textbook, we build a team of faculty authors and reviewers, selected for their expertise, to write the content. A lead contributing author or senior development editor then reviews the manuscript to ensure a common voice and consistent pedagogy throughout the textbook and its supplemental resources.
Review and quality assurance
Chapters are first reviewed by faculty specializing in the specific topics covered, and then a final round of general reviews by experienced instructors ensures consistency throughout the text. Extensive testing and reviewing is completed once the final manuscript is generated.
Publishing and availability
Once complete, we make our books available online at OpenStax.org and in print.
